Vols Finish 2nd, Card School Record 821

PRIMM, Nev. -- After carding a 54-hole school record 821 (-43), the Tennessee men's golf team finished second at the Jackrabbit Invitational. Four Vols finished inside the top-15, with Merzbacher posting his fourth top-10 of the season.
On Tuesday, the Vols followed up strong first two rounds by carding a final round 6-under par 282 for a second place finish. Junior Chad Merzbacher led the way for the Vols, posting a final round 3-under par to move him to a career-low 13-under for the tournament. Merzbacher's fourth place finish marked his fourth top-10 of the season.
Freshman Lorenzo Scalise fired a final round 3-under par 69, marking his third round in the 60s for the tournament. Scalise finished fifth, his highest finish as a Volunteer. Junior Michael Nagy posted his highest round of the tournament, a 2-over par 74, on Tuesday to bring him to 8-under par. For the second consecutive tournament, Nagy tied for a ninth place finish.
Like Nagy, sophomore Jack Smith also posted a final round 2-over par 74. Smith finished the tournament tied for 12th place at 6-under par. Fellow sophomore Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara carded his best round of the tournament, 2-under par 70, to finish tied for 26th place at even par. Competing as an individual, junior Michael Monroe posted a season-low 68 (-4) during the final round. Monroe's round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 7th. He finished in a tie for 26 place with Serrano Guevara.
UNLV posted scores of 272-267-265--804 (-60) to claim the team title, while UNLV's Kurt Kitayama carded 67-64-66--197 (-19) to capture the individual crown.
The Vols return to action March 23, when they tee off at the Floridian Invitational in West Palm Beach, Florida.
