PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- The Vols sit in seventh place after a rainy second round at the John Hayt Invitational. Sophomore Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara is in reach of his first top 10 finish as a Volunteer.
Serrano Guevara fired his second consecutive 74 (+2) in wet conditions at Sawgrass Country Club. His second round included four birdies to give him six for the tournament. He currently sits in a tie for ninth place at 4-over par.
Junior Chad Merzbacher also shot a second round 2-over par 74. Merzbacher's second round included two birdies to bring his tournament total to seven. He remains in a tie for 21st place at 6-over par heading to Sunday. Fellow junior Michael Monroe carded a second round 3-over par 75 to place him in a tie for 40th place at 9-over par. Monroe was able to find four birdies on Saturday, despite the wet conditions.
Freshman Lorenzo Scalise posted his second 5-over par (77) of the weekend. Scalise was even par when he made the turn, but fell on hard times on the par-4 11th amidst steady, misty rain. Sophomore Jack Smith improved on his first round score of 78 by two strokes by carding a 6-over par 76 during round two. Smith's second round included four birdies. Scalise currently resides in a tie for 45th place, while Smith finds himself tied for 55th place.
Redshirt senior Danny Keddie found his first birdie of his senior campaign on the par-5 8th hole at Sawgrass Country Club. Keddie bounced back for the Vols during the second round, firing a 3-over par 75 which included four birdies. He currently sits in a tie for 67th place at 15-over par.
Beau Hossler of Texas fired an impressive 6-under 66 to find himself on top of the individual leaderboard heading into Sunday's final round. Hossler's round included seven birdies and one bogey. With Texas at the top of the team leaderboard at 5-over par, the Vols (+29) will need to be on top of their game during the final round Sunday morning.
Tennessee will begin their final round when Keddie goes off the first tee at 7:30 a.m. (ET) alongside North Texas and Jacksonville.
