First Round Stats
PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- The Vols find themselves in sixth place after day one at Sawgrass Country Club. Sophomore Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara is currently tied for 7th place at the John Hayt Invitational.
Serrano Guevara's scorecard was consistent throughout day one as he shot 1-over par on both the front and back nines to lead the Vols with a 2-over par 72. He currently sits in a tie for 7th place.
Junior Chad Merzbacher shot a 4-over par 76, but was able to find five birdies throughout the first round at Sawgrass Country Club. Merzbacher was 4-over when he made the turn at hole 18 and managed to finish the day 4-over par. Freshman Lorenzo Scalise finished round one 5-over par (77) and tallied one birdie on the round. Merzbacher sits in a tie for 21st place, while Scalise is currently tied for 30th.
Competing as an individual, Michael Monroe posted an opening round 78 (+6). Sophomore Jack Smith also shot an opening round 78, highlighted by a birdie on the par-5 eighth hole. Monroe and Smith are currently tied for 42nd place at 6-over par.
Redshirt senior Danny Keddie carded an opening round 84 (+12) for his first round of the 2014-15 campaign. Keddie will hope to bounce back for the Vols on Saturday morning.
Alabama's Tom Lovelady was the only player to finish the day under par and is the individual leader after round one. Loveday carded a 2-under 70 which included four birdies.
With tournament leader North Florida sitting at 8-over par, the Vols will begin the second round nine strokes off the lead.
