KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee volleyball team has announced its 2015 spring exhibition schedule -- a slate that features several matches over four consecutive Saturday tournaments, spanning the final weekend of March and into April. Two of those tournaments will be held in Knoxville at the new Joan Cronan Volleyball Center.
The first home tournament of the spring comes on April 11th. Tennessee plays host to a tournament field of Gardner-Webb, Lipscomb, South Carolina State, Tennessee State, Troy, and Tennessee Tech. UT's opponents on that date are yet to be determined.
Tennessee wraps up its spring schedule the very next weekend when Austin Peay, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Georgetown College, Murray State, Northern Alabama, USC Upstate and UNC Asheville.
UT will play its first match on each of its home Saturdays at 9 a.m. ET. Additional matches, spanning each of the Joan Cronan Volleyball Center's three courts, are scheduled to begin every hour, on the hour.
"The spring season has always been incredibly important to our program," said head coach Rob Patrick, entering his 19th season at the helm of Tennessee volleyball. "This is a time when important strides are made in the development of our players, particularly our young players. We know that our 2015 season begins in January, not in August, and we've already been getting in some great workouts and training sessions. We're getting our minds and bodies stronger every day and these spring competitions will help us maintain that focus."
The Lady Vols open the 2015 spring slate on March 28 when they make the short trek to Chattanooga for a trio of matches. The field at UTC includes: host Chattanooga, Belmont, Bryan College, Dalton State, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, and Kennesaw State, not to mention SEC foes Georgia and Ole Miss. Tennessee's day begins at 9:45 a.m. ET against the host Mocs.
The following Saturday, April 4, UT heads to Atlanta for the 2015 Yellow Jacket Spring Challenge. The Lady Vols will play another three matches over the course of the day, starting at 12:30 p.m. against host Georgia Tech. Other programs participating in the Challenge include: Chattanooga, Georgia Southern, and Jacksonville State. Fellow SEC member Auburn will also be on hand.
