Kirkland Named SEC Freshman Of Week

BIRMINGHAM -- Linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday following his career high nine-tackle game in the Vols' win over South Carolina. Kirkland is second among SEC freshman in tackles with 44.
The Indianapolis native has emerged in recent weeks with 22 tackles over the last three games. He has four tackles for loss and two sacks this season along with his first interception, coming at Kentucky on Oct. 31.
Kirkland is the second Vol to earn Freshman honors this season, wide receiver Preston Williams was recognized on Sept. 21 following the Western Carolina game.
