BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Middle blocker Erica Treiber was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, the conference office announced Wednesday.
With two matches left to play this season, Treiber has provided a strong all-around presence for the Vols on the front row. She is just one of two players to start every match.
She leads the team in blocks (1.14 blocks/set) and hitting percentage (.347) and is fourth in kills (2.17 kills/set). She ranks sixth in the SEC in blocks and 10th in hitting percentage. She has also served from the back row this year, collecting 17 aces.
"For a freshman to come in and start every match and lead us in two categories is a tremendous feat," Tennessee head coach Rob Patrick said. "Erica's had a huge impact on the success we've had this season. As good a player as she is, she's an incredible teammate. She affects the team in such a positive way with her attitude and personality.
"I think this is just the beginning of a bright future for Erica. She's only scratched the surface of her skill set.
In SEC play, she led the team with 16 kills in a five-set win over South Carolina on Oct. 18. On Nov. 6, she totaled 15 kills and hit .667 in a 3-1 loss at Alabama. She had a career-high 10 blocks against Georgia in a sweep on Sept. 27.
She was named SEC Freshman of the Week twice.
Treiber is the first UT player to earn conference freshman honors since Tiffany Baker and Mary Pollmiller in 2011.
Tennessee (20-11, 6-10 SEC) faces Auburn on Wednesday at 9 p.m. at Thompson-Boling Arena. It is fan appreciation night and admission is free.
