With the win, Tennessee improved to 3-0 at home this season.
UT improved to 1,572-1,003-2 in program history and 334-118 all-time at Thompson-Boling Arena
Vols head coach Rick Barnes is now 18-0 in his career against current members of the Big South. Tennessee is 20-0 all-time program history against current members of the Big South.
Tennessee's starting lineup on Sunday consisted of Robert Hubbs III, Devon Baulkman, Derek Reese, Kevin Punter Jr., Armani Moore.
UT is 2-1 with that starting lineup.
Official attendance for tonight's game was 11,911.
Devon Baulkman finished with a career-high 22 points and made a career-high six 3-pointers (6-of-10) in the win. He is the first Vol to make six treys in one game since Jordan McCrae went 6-of-8 against South Carolina on Feb. 8, 2014.
Vols senior Kevin Punter scored 24 points, hauled down a career-best seven rebounds.
Vols senior Kevin Punter Jr. and Gardner-Webb senior Harold McBride grew up to gether in the Bronx and are very close friends. Punter finished with a team-best 24 points and McBride led his team with 17 points.
Tennessee posted 23 assists in the win, the Vols' most since dishing out 30 against Tusculum on Jan. 4, 2014.
Tennessee enjoyed its strongest 3-point shooting performance of the season, going 13-of-28 from long distance. UT's 13 3-pointers made were its most since making 13 against ETSU on Dec. 27, 2014.
The Vols were 7-of-16 ( 43.8 percent) from beyond the arc in the first half. It was UT's best 3-point shooting in a half since hitting at a 62.5 percent clip (5-of-8) in the second half of a 78-63 win at LSU on March 4, 2015.
Perhaps no two 3-pointers were bigger than Devon Baulkman's back-to-back treys in the middle of the second half over a span of 26 seconds. With the Vols trailing 57-56, Baulkman drilled a triple from the left wing to give UT a 59-57 lead. After a block and a rebound by Armani Moore at the opposite end of the floor, Baulkman drained a transition 3-pointer from the right side to give the Vols a 62-57 lead with 8:50 remaining. Baulkman was fouled on UT's next possession when he faked to get Dylan Poston in the air and draw a three-shot foul in the left corner.
With the win, Tennessee extended its November home win streak to 57 games. The streak began in 1996.
Tennessee's largest lead of the first half was when the Vols led 34-15 (19 points) with 5:12 remaining. UT went on a 16-6
run over a five-minute stretch (10:13 to 5:12).
The Vols' largest lead of the second half was 25 points as Admiral Schofield made a layup with 26 seconds left to produce the final score.
Tennessee led Gardner-Webb, 41-37, at the half. The Vols shot 43.8 percent (14-of-32) from the floor with Kevin Punter Jr. leading the team in points (13), rebounds (five) and assists (five). Armani Moore had 10 points and four rebounds before halftime.
Gardner-Webb shot 35.1 percent (13-of-37) in the opening half. Harold McBride paced the team with 14 points.
