Grant Williams Makes it Official, Signs with Vols
November 14, 2015 | Men's Basketball
Tennessee basketball coach Rick Barnes announced the fourth member of his Fall 2015 signing class Saturday, as Grant Williams has submitted a signed National Letter of Intent to UT.
A 6-7, 230-pound forward from Charlotte, N.C., Williams plans to enroll at Tennessee next summer. He will be a freshman for the Vols next season.
"Grant will give us a unique combination of power and skill," Barnes said. "His skill set has the potential to make him a difficult matchup for most frontline defenders. We also love his high basketball IQ and the energy he brings to the floor. So we're very excited."
Williams averaged 18 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 2.7 assists as a junior last season at Providence Day School, where he is coached by Brian Fields.
The Chargers posted a 25-5 record and reached the 2015 NCISAA semifinals while playing one of the toughest schedules in the Charlotte area.
The Charlotte Observer tabbed Williams as its 2015 Player of the Year after naming him Player of the Week 10 times during the season.
He was also placed on the Associated Press All-State Team.
Williams--who played his AAU basketball with the CP3 All-Stars, coached by John Adams and Art Wade--entered his senior campaign having scored more than 1,100 career points.
An outstanding academic performer, he chose Tennessee over multiple Ivy League institutions.
He joins a 2016-17 Tennessee freshman class that includes guards Lamonté Turner (currently enrolled and redshirting) and Jordan Bone and forwards Jalen Johnson and John Fulkerson.
