Vols Hosting Military Appreciation Night
November 12, 2015 | Men's Basketball
The Tennessee Volunteers will host Military Appreciation Day on Tuesday, Nov. 24, when Army West Point visits Thompson-Boling Arena to take on the Vols (7 p.m. ET, SEC Network).
Current military members and veterans, along with their immediate families, will receive free admission to the game by presenting their military ID or DD 214 at the gates.
Prior to the game, fans can submit a brief e-mail to UTAthletics@utk.edu nominating a friend or family member who is currently serving, or has served, in the military to receive “Military MVP of the Game” tickets. The selected Military MVP of the Game will receive premium baseline seats, free parking and passes to enjoy a pregame meal in the Courtside Club. Throughout the game, there will be a number of promotions and ceremonies to recognize those who serve or have served.
The National Anthem will be performed by University of Tennessee alumna, Captain Stephanie McKeen, Wing Executive Officer for the 134th Air Refueling Wing at McGhee Tyson.
For the second consecutive season, a United States Army Contracting Ceremony for The University of Tennessee’s ROTC program will be held at halftime. During the ceremony, 30 Cadets from the University of Tennessee Army ROTC Rocky Top Battalion will be contracted into the United States Army, and upon graduation will be Commissioned 2nd Lieutenants of the United States Army. Additionally, during a scheduled timeout, the children of service men and women will be recognized on the court in partnership with the East Tennessee Military Affairs Council to honor and celebrate Military Family Appreciation Month.
Fans in attendance wishing to show their support for veterans may stop by the marketing table, located on the concourse at Section 127, during the game to write or draw a card for a Tennessee veteran. The cards will be delivered to the VA Centers and Clinics in Murfreesboro, Chattanooga and Nashville. Family or members of the United States Military are encouraged to share photos of our troops displaying their Tennessee pride by tweeting using #VFLinMilitary or emailing VFLinMilitary@crowdcameo.com. Photos submitted and approved will be displayed on the videoboard during the game.
The Army West Point game is one of UT’s two campus-site contests associated with the Barclays Center Classic.
