November 12, 2015 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee women's tennis team started its 2016 signing class this week with the addition of Mary Caroline Meredith and Ariadna Riley.
Meredith, a native of Birmingham, Ala., is rated as a five-star on tennisrecruiting.net and is the No. 1 overall player from Alabama. She is rated as the No. 63 player in the country for her class.
"Mary Caroline is a wonderful athlete whose best days on the tennis court are in front of her," said co-head coach Mike Patrick. "We are excited to be able to start working with her and help her reach her potential. She could become a force in the near future with a powerful forehand and outstanding serve. She has a tremendous desire to reach the highest levels of competitive tennis and we look forward to providing her the opportunities to do so."
Riley, a five-star from Macon, Ga., is ranked as the No. 52 player in the country and the No. 2 player in her state.
"Ariadna Riley is a great fit for our program," Patrick said. "She has a world-class forehand and is an aggressive all-court player and will make an immediate impact on our program. By growing up in the south and then spending some time in Spain developing her game, she brings a great deal of competitive experience."
Meredith is expected to enroll and compete for the spring season with the Vols, and Riley will enroll with the team next fall.
"Both women are excellent students, who will represent our program and the University of Tennessee with pride," Patrick said.
This weekend, the team will finish out its fall schedule, as Sadie Hammond, Eve Repic, Ashley Bongart and Kim Kermet travel to compete in the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic in Sarasota, Fla. in the annual bracket-style tournament.
