UT Fall Invite
Vols Split Matches on Day 1 of Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee women's tennis team split doubles and fell in singles during day one of the UT Fall Invite at Goodfriend Tennis Center on Friday.
The day began with two rounds of doubles against Wake Forest to experiment with different lineups. In the first round, junior Eve Repic and freshman Kim Kermet downed the duo of Andrea Retolaza and Luisa Fernandez, 6-1, for their first win of the season together. Senior Tiffany Tavares and freshman Margo Taylor edged the team of Emma Davis and Kasey Gardiner, 7-6 (3).
In the second round, the freshmen duo of Ashley Bongart and Sadie Hammond were victorious over Xue Zhang and Samantha Asch, winning 6-3 in their first match of the season together.
The Volunteers ended the day with a round of singles against Arizona State. Repic downed Stephanie Vlad, 6-4, 6-4, for her fifth win of the season. Bongart picked up her third win of the season by beating Ebony Panoho, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Hammond fell for only the second time this season in tough loss to No. 26 Desirae Krawczyk. After dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, Krawczyk bounced back to take the next two sets and the match, 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-3, avoiding the upset.
Margo Taylor played in an additional round of singles, with players competing as individuals instead of with their teams. She defeated Wake Forest’s Kasey Gardiner, 6-0, 6-2, for her first collegiate victory.
Tennessee will be back in action tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Goodfriend Tennis Center, facing Ohio State in singles and doubles.
