POSTGAME NOTES
Tennessee Tidbits
- The #8/8 Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the Tennessee Volunteers, 19-14, at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
- Tennessee now owns a 4-8 all-time record against the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
- Alabama now leads the all-time series 53-38-7, including a current nine-game win streak dating back to Oct. 21, 2006.
Tennessee Captains
- Serving as captains for Tennessee this afternoon were Alvin Kamara, Brian Randolph and Joshua Dobbs.
- Alabama won the toss and deferred to the second half. Tennessee elected to receive upon kickoff in the first half.
For Starters
- Tennessee started two true freshmen on the right side of the offensive line against Alabama - Chance Hall and Jack Jones (first career starts). The Vols also started two true freshmen on the right side five times last year (Jashon Robertson and Coleman Thomas) most-recently against Ole Miss on Oct. 18, 2014.
- Other notable starting notes: UT started a combination of Von Pearson, Josh Smith and Josh Malone as their wide receiver unit vs. Alabama.
Offensive Notes
- Dobbs completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to WR Josh Smith in the first quarter, his second TD reception of the season. Kicker Aaron Medley's made PAT evened the score a 7-7 with 3:00 left in the first quarter.
- Johnathon Johnson caught an 18-yard pass from Dobbs in the first quarter, marking his longest reception of the year.
- Dobbs connected with Josh Smith for a 27-yard pass in the fourth quarter, putting the Vols in Alabama territory.
- On the next play, Dobbs found Josh Malone for a 34-yard pass completion to the UA 12 yard line.
- Dobbs finished with 13-of-22 yards passing for 171 yards and one touchdown.
- Jalen Hurd ran for a 12-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, tying the game at 13-13. Medley's made PAT game Tennessee a one-point lead, 14-13.
- Jalen Hurd led the team in rushing with 18 attempts for 92 yards, including a big 29-yard rush with less than one minute left in the first half.
- Seven players caught a pass vs. the Crimson Tide with Kamara catching a team-best four for 44 yards. Other Vols credited with catches: Von Pearson, Josh Smith, Josh Malone, Johnathon Johnson, Marquez North and Ethan Wolf. >/li>
Defensively Speaking
- As a team, Tennessee combined for four sacks against Alabama QB Jake Coker. The four sacks vs. Bama mark the most since the 2014 Sugar Bowl, ending the 2013 season, vs. Oklahoma (7 sacks).
- The defense's four sacks were also the most for UT vs. Bama since 2005 (5 sacks).
- Brian Randolph intercepted a pass from Alabama's Coker at the UT 24-yard line, giving his Vols possession on the UT 25 in the second quarter. The interception was Randolph's first of the season and his seventh as a Vol.
- Jalen Reeves-Maybin led the Vols' defense with 11 total tackles (six solo) and one sack, his fourth double-digit tackle game of the year.
- Derek Barnett recorded his third sack of the season on UA's Coker in the second quarter.
- Corey Vereen also had five total tackles including two sacks, his first career multi-sack game.
Special Teams
- Trevor Daniel's first punt of the day went 53 yards, marking his 15th of 50-or-more yards this season. Daniel boomed four punts for an average of 43.2 yards.
- Kicker Aaron Medley attempted a 51-yard field goal to end the first half, but the kick was wide left. He also attempted a 52-yard and a 43-yard field goal, but each missed wide right. He is now 9-for-17 this season and 3-for-5 on kicks between 20-29 yards.
- Medley was 2-for-2 on PATs vs. Alabama and is now a perfect 30-of-30 for 57 points on the year.
