Vols Roll Through First Round of Singles

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- With the main draw underway at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, the Tennessee women's tennis team bounced back from a slow start in doubles to advance three individuals in the singles bracket to the second round.
The day began with two rounds of doubles. Freshman Ashley Bongart and junior Brittany Lindl fell in a tiebreaker to Purdue's Andjela Djokovic and Nicole Robinson, 8-7 (1). Junior Eve Repic and freshman Sadie Hammond lost 8-5 to Andreanna Christopoulou and Cynthia Melita from Western Kentucky.
Both duos chose to compete in the consolation draw, coming out victorious in their second matches. Hammond and Repic defeated Samantha Caswell and Kayla Jones from UTC, 8-6, while Lindl and Bongart bested UT Martin's Hitomi Naito and Burcu Tari in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (5).
The Volunteers rolled through the first round of singles. Repic defeated Brittany Huxley of Middle Tennessee, 7-5, 6-4. Bongart picked up her first win of the season, topping Ellie Yates from Vanderbilt, 6-4, 6-4. Hammond bested Louisville's Chloe Willetts, 6-1, 6-2.
