FINAL NOTES
ATTENDANCE: 102,455
- The announced attendance was 102,455, the second time the Vols have had a capacity crowd this season at Neyland Stadium.
- In the Vols’ first four home games, the attendance has been higher than 101,000.
RANKED WIN/COMEBACK WIN
- The victory over Georgia was the Vols’ first win over a top-25 ranked team since defeating then-No. 11 South Carolina 23-21 on Oct. 19, 2013.
- In the second quarter, the Vols trailed 21 points at 24-3. This win ties for the third-biggest comeback in program history.
- The Vols came back from 21-0 down in the second quarter to beat Kentucky on Nov. 17, 2001 (W, 38-35) and 21-0 down in the third quarter to beat LSU on Sept. 26, 2005 (W, 30-27)
- Tennessee’s biggest comeback was 25 points when Tennessee rallied to beat Vanderbilt on Nov. 28, 1987. Vanderbilt had led 28-3 in the second quarter; Tennessee won 38-36.
VOL CAPTAINS
- Serving as captains for Tennessee this afternoon were Cam Sutton, Jalen Hurd, Brian Randolph and Joshua Dobbs
- Tennessee won the toss and deferred to the second half. It is the fifth consecutive coin toss won by the Vol captains this season. Four of five times, they have deferred to the second half.
FOR STARTERS
- Redshirt sophomore Josh Smith got the start today at wide receiver, his sixth career start
- Other notable starting notes: redshirt senior Mack Crowder started at center; sophomore Coleman Thomas started at right tackle.
DOBBS’ DAY
- Joshua Dobbs threw 25-of-42 passing for 312 passing (career high), three touchdowns (matches career high vs. Kentucky last year), 1 interception. He rushed 18 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
- It was Dobbs’ second career 300+ yard passing game. His previous career high was 301 against South Carolina last year (11/1/14)
- It was his third career 100+ yard rushing game.
- Second time in Tennessee history a player has 300+ yards passing and 100+ yards rushing. Dobbs did it the first time in program history in the South Carolina Game last year.
TENNESSEE PLAYS OF 20+ YARDS
- Tennessee had nine offensive plays of 20+ yards in the game.
- The Vols had four plays of 20+ yards in the first half. Here’s a look: Dobbs rushed for 27 yards to Georgia’s 1-yard line in the first quarter … Dobbs passed to Kamara for a 23-yard gain in the first quarter … The Vols’ longest offensive play of the half was a 39-yard pass from Dobbs to Josh Smith with 1:04 left before halftime … Dobbs passed to Josh Malone for 23 yards to the UGA 2-yard-line, it was a career-long reception for Malone.
- In the second half, the Vols had five plays of 20+ yards: Two came in the TD drive early in the third quarter. First came a 33-yard pass from Dobbs to Preston Williams … On the next play, Hurd rushed 20 yards to the 2-yard line. Dobbs scored on the next play. After a PAT, the Vols tied the game 24-24 … Dobbs rushed 26 yards to the UGA 8-yard line, setting up another TD … Dobbs connected with Ethan Wolf for 34 yards in the fourth quarter. It was Wolf’s longest career reception … Two plays later, Dobbs passed to Alex Ellis for 24 yards, his longest reception of the season
- Tennessee has 28 offensive plays of 20+ yards this season.
- On special teams, Cam Sutton had a key 23-yard punt return late in the fourth quarter. Evan Berry’s longest kickoff return was 46 yards.
DEFENSIVE NOTES
- Brian Randolph led the Vols with nine tackles, all solo.
- Derek Barnett had seven total tackles, five solo with a sack. It is his second-most tackles this season and the most since 15 against Oklahoma.
SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
- Trevor Daniel, who entered the game ranked fifth in NCAA in punting average (48.6 yards/punt) recorded his 12th, 13th and 14th punts of the season of 50+ yards. His first punt of the day went 56 yards. His fourth went 53 yards but was returned for a touchdown.
- His final punt went 56 yards to the Georgia 1-yard line with 1:48 remaining.
- Daniel also had three punts land inside the 10-yard line (to the 8 yard line and his final to the 1). He now has 13 punts inside the 20-yard line and seven inside the 11.
- The Vols got on the scoreboard with a 22-yard field goal by Aaron Medley with 1:39 left in the first quarter. He is now 9-for-14 this season and 3-for-5 on kicks between 20-29 yards.
- Tennessee also forced a turnover on special teams at the close of the first half. On a kickoff, Jakob Johnson forced a fumble, recovered by Todd Kelly Jr.
