Richardson up for Senior Class Award
January 24, 2015 | Men's Basketball
Tennessee senior Josh Richardson is one of 30 student-athletes selected as candidates Friday for the 2014-15 Senior CLASS Award in college basketball.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
A converted point guard from Edmond, Okla., Richardson leads the Vols and ranks sixth in the SEC in scoring (15.7 ppg). He ranks second in the SEC in steals (2.1 spg) and third in minutes played (34.6 mpg).
On Jan. 20 at South Carolina, he became the 47th Vol ever to surpass the 1,000 career points milestone.
Richardson has been a team leader in community outreach efforts during the course of his four-year career, and he will graduate in May with a degree in Psychology.
Tennessee's Isabelle Harrison was named to the list of women's candidates Friday, making Tennessee one of just three schools in the nation to place both a men's and women's basketball player on this year's Senior CLASS candidate list, joining Maryland-Eastern Shore and Stanford.
Other noteworthy names joining Richardson on the candidate list include Frank Kaminsky (Wisconsin) and Kevin Pangos (Gonzaga). Texas A&M's Jordan Green and Alabama's Levi Randolph are the only other Southeastern Conference players on the candidate list.

An acronym for "Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School," the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2015 Final Four.
Each of the 30 candidate classes (for different NCAA sports) will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
