Lady Vols Defeat Murray State 5-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lady Vols opened their spring season with a 5-2 win over Murray State in their first of two matches on the day.
The team easily took the doubles point of the match to get a 1-0 lead over Murray state as the sophomore duos of Eve Repic/Laurence Guevremont and Victoria Olivarez/Brittany Lindl both won 6-1 over their opponents. Seniors Joanna Henderson and Caitlyn Williams led 5-3 when their match was ended.
In singles, Henderson jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead in the first set over No. 124 Andrea Eskauriarza, and she did not look back after that, going on to win her team-high 11th match of the year in a 6-2, 6-3 victory. The win was also her third of the year over a ranked opponent.
Repic and Guevremont kept their momentum going from doubles as they both came out victorious in singles. Guevremont defeated Alena Vasileva 6-1, 6-2, and Repic beat Eleonore Tchakarova 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Lady Vols. Olivarez won her ninth match of the season as she beat Megan Blue 7-6 (8), 6-2.
Junior Tiffany Tavares and sophomore Brittany Lindl both fell in tough matches. Tavares lost 6-4, 6-2 to Verginie Tchakarova. Lindl had to retire from her match after suffering an injury.
The Lady Vols will play Western Kentucky at 3 p.m. in the second match of Saturday's doubleheader.
