KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Perfect Game USA released its 2015 Preseason College Rankings on Thursday with the Tennessee Volunteers ranked at No. 27 in the country.
Tennessee is one of nine Southeastern Conference schools named in Perfect Game's Top 30 preseason picks, joining Vanderbilt (No. 1), Florida (No. 4), LSU (No. 7), South Carolina (No. 14), Arkansas (No. 16), Mississippi State (No. 23), Texas A&M (No. 25) and Alabama (No. 28).
The acknowledgement from Perfect Game also follows a recent Top-25 preseason ranking for the Vols by D1Baseball.com.
Earlier this month, Perfect Game recognized five Volunteer baseball players as being within the Top 100 in their respective classes entering 2015: outfielder Christin Stewart (No. 14) and shortstop A.J. Simcox (No. 86) received junior class honors, right-handed pitcher Kyle Serrano was named the No. 10 player among all sophomores in the nation and new additions Benito Santiago (No. 70) and Zach Warren (No. 80) were recognized as Top 100 freshmen.
In 2014, Tennessee went 31-23 and appeared in the SEC Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2007. Knoxville native Nick Senzel brought in All-SEC Freshman honors in his rookie campaign on Rocky Top, while All-SEC player Stewart also went on to win a gold medal with USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team.
Tennessee begins official practice on Friday, January 23 and looks to open their 2015 regular season in Miami, Fla., facing Florida International for a three-game set (Feb. 13-15). The Vols will then return to Rocky Top for a six-game opening homestand (Feb. 18 - 24) against Tennessee Tech, Rutgers and Lipscomb at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
