BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After scoring in double figures in all three games and helping #6/9 Tennessee to a 3-0 record, senior Cierra Burdick was named the Southeastern Conference Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
The award was her first of the season and third of her career. She also became the second Tennessee player this season to be honored, as Isabelle Harrison was chosen for distinction on Dec. 29.
Burdick, a 6-foot-2 forward from Charlotte, N.C., averaged 13.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.0 blocks to help Tennessee improve its winning streak to 10 straight and its record to 14-2 overall and 4-0 in the SEC. She shot 51.9 percent from the field (14-27) and 92.3 percent from the free throw line (12-13) last week.
The graduate of Butler High School helped Tennessee overcome a nine-point deficit at Arkansas on Sunday, firing in a season-best 17 points, including 14 in the second half, and contributing six rebounds, three blocks and two assists. She hit 10 of 11 free throws in the contest.
In an 81-58 win over #9/8 Texas A&M, Burdick hit seven of nine shots from the field to post her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and a team-leading 11 rebounds, along with a season-high six assists and one steal.
Burdick also was key in Tennessee's 57-49 road win over Vanderbilt, contributing 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. She helped the Lady Vols hold the Commodores to their lowest home scoring output in the series since 1976.
For the season, Burdick now is averaging a season-high 9.4 points per game to go along with 7.3 rebounds per contest, and she is shooting 40.6% from the field and 82.4% from the free throw line. Burdick has started nine of the 14 games she has played for Holly Warlick's squad in 2014-15.
The Lady Vols continue SEC play and their three-game road foray on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET, as they play at Auburn in a game televised on FOX Sports Net.
