Bates Suffers Torn Labrum; Out For Year
September 29, 2014 | Football
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Head coach Butch Jones announced at his Monday press conference that freshman linebacker Dillon Bates has suffered a torn labrum and will miss the remainder of the regular season. Tennessee will apply for a medical redshirt season, which would him to play four more seasons with the Vols following this 2014 season.
"Officially, Dillon Bates, last night we got final word through the MRI and the doctors, he has torn his labrum," Jones said. "So he has a labrum tear, so he will undergo surgery and he will miss the rest of the season. We will apply for a redshirt which should go through. Then we will have him back for spring football.
Bates played in the first four games as a reserve linebacker and on special teams making six tackles. Bates is the son of former Vols legend Bill Bates, who went on to win three Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys.
Thank you for the support and prayers for a quick recovery! I love this team, hurts I won't finish the season but can't wait to get back!
