Second Round Stats
MEADOWS OF DAN, Va. -- On a day that included second round twosomes in carts, the Tennessee men's golf team posted its best scores of the fall season to find themselves in fifth place at the inaugural Primland Collegiate Invitational.
Junior Chad Merzbacher led the way for the Vols in round one, while fellow junior Michael Nagy carded a career best in the second round. Merzbacher posted an opening round 69 (-3) which included five birdies and two bogeys. He followed it up with a second round 71 (-1). Nagy had a tale of two rounds, carding an opening round 80 (+8), followed by a second round 68 (-4). Merzbacher is currently in a tie for 14th place at 4-under par, and Nagy is tied for 41st place at 4-over par.
The Volunteers saw an opening round 70 (-2) from sophomore Jack Smith. Smith's first round included an eagle on the par-5 third hole, two birdies and two bogeys. Smith posted a second round 73 (+1) to find himself in a tie for 23rd place at 1-under par.
Freshman Lorenzo Scalise, shot 1-under par (71-72--143) on the day. Scalise's rounds included five birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey. He is currently in a tie for 23rd place with teammate Smith.
Wrapping up the scoring for the Volunteers was sophomore Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara. The Mexico native posted a first round 71 (-1), followed by a second round 74 (+2). Serrano is currently in a tie for 35th place at 1-over par.
North Carolina's William Register is the individual leader after round two. Register carded scores of 66 (-6) and 65 (-7) to capture the lead at 13-under par.
With tournament leader Wake Forest sitting at 27-under par, Tennessee will have 16 strokes to make up at the Highland course at Primland on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Tennessee will start their final round of the Primland Collegiate Invitational at 8:30 a.m. ET from the 1st tee. Tennessee will be paired with North Carolina.
