Making his second career start as a professional, Oliver Goss is leading the PGA Tour's Quicken Loans National tournament.
"I just came into this week fresh and open-minded and just wanted to see what would happen," Goss said. "Now I'm on top of the leaderboard. I could not be more pleased."
The 20-year old shot a 66 (-5) on Friday to make the cut at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. Goss will enter Saturday with a 36 hole total of 136 (-6). He is in a three-way tie for first with Ricky Barnes and Marc Leishman.
The native of Perth, Australia, is leading a PGA Tour field that consists of Tiger Woods, Brandt Snedeker, and Jason Day.
Goss actually was not even allowed in the clubhouse prior to his low round on Friday. A security guard mistook Goss for a spectator and would not allow him access.
"I tried to get in the clubhouse and I do not have a PGA Tour credential because I'm not a member yet," Goss said. "And they said they could not let me in. So I had to walk all the way around [the clubhouse] to go back in. It was no big deal, but I have a credential now (laughs)."
On Thursday, Goss had the longest drive of the first round after he drilled his tee shot 365 yards on hole No. 9.
Goss will tee off on Saturday, looking to stay atop the Quicken Loans leaderboard.
