Blaase Breaks School Record in 10,000

STANFORD, Calif. -- Chelsea Blaase broke the Tennessee school record by more than 10 seconds in the 10,000 meter run late Friday night at the Stanford Invitational.

Blaase finished the long race in a time of 33 minutes, 13.94 seconds, in her first time ever competing in the event at UT. She placed sixth overall in her section, which included plenty of professionals. She was third among collegiate runners.

The previous Tennessee record in the 10,000 was held by Liz Costello, who ran in 33:25.66 at the 2011 Stanford meet.

Blaase has enjoyed a breakout second season so far at Tennessee. She was All-SEC and All-South Region during the fall cross country season. In the indoor track and field season, she placed second in the 5,000 at the SEC meet and ran the race at the NCAA championships, placing 11th overall.
