Tennessee Opens at 120th Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA -- Freshman Felecia Majors finished in the top 10 in the long jump and the UT men recorded personal bests in the 5,000 meters Thursday to open the 120th-annual Penn Relays.
Majors took seventh in the college long jump in the afternoon with a distance of 19 feet, 2.5 inches (5.85 meters), her second-best mark of the season.
Senior Daniel Tobin opened the evening session of distance races by making his season debut in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He placed 24th overall in a time of 9 minutes, 14.42 seconds, just three seconds off his career best pace. It was a tightly contested race with only five seconds separating 11th through 24th in the standings.
The Vols ended the day with the 5,000-meter run.
Austin Whitelaw crossed the finish line in a career best 14:12.27, good for 11th place in the college championship race. In the college race, J.R. Creekmore recorded a career-best time of his own in 14:42.79.
Former Lady Vol standout Brittany Sheffey was also in action Thursday, finishing second in the women's Olympic Development 5,000 meters in 16:13.78.
Friday's schedule for Tennessee includes the women's triple jump, 4x1500 relay and sprint medley relay.
