November 09, 2014 | Soccer
ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- Tennessee's Allie Sirna and Hannah Wilkinson were named to the 2014 SEC Women's Soccer Tournament All-Tournament Team.
Wilkinson went to work up top with three goals and one assist during UT's amazing run. Sirna tied for the team lead with 290 minutes played and her leadership on the back line helped the team rally back against Alabama in the first round and contain a potent Florida attack in the quarterfinals.
Tennessee (10-10-2) enjoyed one of the most impressive late-season runs in program history to get into the SEC Tournament and then fight its way to the semifinals. On Oct. 26, UT rallied around its seniors for a 3-0 Senior Day win over Missouri. Tennessee followed that with a 3-2, double-overtime comeback win at Ole Miss on Oct. 30 with Cheyenne Spade scoring the winner in the 106th minute to punch UT's ticket to the SEC Tournament as the No. 10 seed.
Tennessee was one of the most exciting No. 10 seeds in SEC Tournament history, battling back from multi-goal deficits and upsetting higher seeds to reach the semifinals. On Nov. 3, the Big Orange upset No. 7 seed Alabama in the first round, scoring three goals in the final 26 minutes to rally back for a 3-2 win. Tennessee played No. 2 seed Florida to a gritty 1-1 tie on Nov. 5 and advanced on PKs, 5-4, to move on to Friday's SEC Tournament semifinal. On Nov. 7, UT nearly came back from a 3-0 deficit as Wilkinson scored two goals in the final 15 minutes in a 3-2 loss to No. 3 seed Kentucky.
With a strong run deep in the SEC Tournament, Tennessee hopes to hear its name called during the 2014 NCAA Selection show on Monday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
