Olivarez Advances to QF on Clay

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. -- Tennessee sophomore Victoria Olivarez won two matches Friday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club.
Olivarez started off the tournament with a 7-6 (8), 6-3 victory over North Florida's Quetzali Vazquez and followed that with a 6-4, 6-4 win over third-seeded Vladica Babic 6-4, 6-4.
Olivarez, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., is now a team-leading 8-2 this season.
In other Tennessee matches, Tiffany Tavares and Brittany Lindl both won their opening matches before losing in the second round. Tavares won a tight match 7-6 (3), 7-5 over Princeton's Sara Goodwin, and Lindl beat Marina Cunningham of North Florida 6-2, 6-4.
Both Tennessee's doubles teams won their opening matches before falling in the second round. Olivarez and Lindl are now 5-4 this fall thanks to an 8-3 victory over a Princeton pair.
This weekend marks the final collegiate competition for the UT women. The tournament wraps up on Sunday and stands as the only clay court event on the Lady Vols' schedule.
