KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Associated Press announced its preseason All-America women's basketball team Tuesday, and Tennessee's 6-foot-3 center Isabelle Harrison was among those receiving votes.
Only five players make the AP preseason team, and that group included Breanna Stewart and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis of UConn, Jewell Loyd of Notre Dame, Tiffany Mitchell of South Carolina and Elizabeth Williams of Duke.
Harrison, a graduate of Hillsboro High School in Nashville, Tenn., was among 12 other players who received nods from All-America voters. The others included Jillian Alleyne (Oregon), Rachel Banham (Minnesota), Nina Davis (Baylor), Nneka Enemkpali (Texas), Reshanda Gray (Cal), Bria Holmes (West Virginia), Brittany Hrynko (DePaul), Amber Orrange (Stanford), Courtney Walker (Texas A&M), Aleighsa Welch (South Carolina) and Kayla Woodward (Wyoming).
In 35 games last season, Harrison shot 57.7 percent from the field and averaged 9.3 rebounds and 13.6 points to rank first, second and 18th, respectively, in the SEC in those categories. She also led the league and set a Tennessee junior record with 18 double-doubles, passing the previous record holder, Chamique Holdsclaw, who had 16 in 1997-98. Only Candace Parker had more double-doubles in a season with 21 as a sophomore in 2006-07.
Harrison earned SEC Tournament MVP honors after leading UT to its 17th postseason league title, averaging 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in the tourney. She shot 59.1 percent (26-44) from the field during UT's three-game run.
She also collected All-SEC First Team accolades as well as third team All-America recognition from Full Court and honorable mention status from Associated Press and the WBCA a year ago and was selected to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the third time.
