November 04, 2014 | Soccer
ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- Tennessee midfielders Cheyenne Spade and Carlyn Baldwin have been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week after playing key roles in Tennessee's victory over Ole Miss to clinch a spot in the 2014 SEC Tournament.
This is the second set of weekly honors for the duo for last week's performance. Last Friday, Spade named SEC Offensive Player of The Week and Baldwin was named SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Friday. This is the first time that Spade and Baldwin have been named to the TDS Team of the Week. They are the first Tennessee players to earn TDS Team of the Week honors since Allie Sirna was selected on Sept. 9.
Spade scored the winner against Ole Miss on Thursday. Spade sent an arcing shot inside the box to the left side of the net in the 108th minute to lift Tennessee to a 3-2 double overtime win over Ole Miss and punch UT's ticket to the 2014 SEC Tournament. Spade's goal in the 108th minute gave Tennessee its first overtime win of the season. UT was previously 0-3-1 in OT this year. Her goal was Tennessee's first OT goal in over two years. Tennessee had been held scoreless the previous 10 times it had gone to overtime.
Baldwin posted a goal and an assist in UT's win over Ole Miss. In the ninth minute, Baldwin assisted on UT's first goal on a short corner played in by Susan Ferguson, who connected with Amy Neal at the six-yard box. Baldwin scored the first goal of her Tennessee career in the 57th minute when she knocked in a penalty kick past diving goalkeeper Kelly McCormick.
Tennessee (10-9-1) enjoyed a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Alabama on Monday in the first round of the SEC Tournament. UT will next face No. 2 seed Florida (14-4-0) in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
