BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Tennessee freshman midfielder Carlyn Baldwin was named to the 2014 SEC All-Freshman Team, as announced by the conference on Sunday.
Baldwin is the 11th Tennessee player to earn SEC All-Freshman Team honors, joining Ali Christoph (2003), Genna Gorman (2004), Emily Redberg (2004), Jackie Acevedo (2005), Kylee Rossi (2005), Tanya Emerson (2007), Devon Swaim (2007), Chelsea Hatcher (2008), Amy Harrison (2009) and Julie Eckel (2011).
Baldwin has been a rock in the Tennessee midfield, winning balls in the air and fighting for possession. The Oakton, Va., native played a key role in Tennessee's seven shutouts and went wire-to-wire in 14 of 19 games. She recorded the first assist of her career against ETSU on Sept. 21, setting up Amy Neal for the winner in the 15th minute. Baldwin had another assist on a Neal goal in the ninth minute at Ole Miss on Oct. 30, helping on Susan Ferguson's short corner played from the right side. She scored the first goal of her career in the 57th minute against the Rebels, converting a penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2.
Baldwin , who played for both the U.S. U-18 Women's National Team and the U.S. U-20 Women's National Team this past summer, was previously named to the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Best XI Freshman Team, the Top Drawer Soccer Midseason Freshman Top 100 (No. 9) and the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team. On Friday, she was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after totaling three points off a goal and an assist in UT's thrilling win at Ole Miss.
