THE SERIES
- Tennessee will be looking to even the season series with the Aggies as Texas A&M claimed this year's first meeting back on Oct. 3 in Knoxville. Sunday is just the 12th meeting all-time in this young series which dates back to 1982. It is also just the fifth meeting between the two programs under the SEC banner. UT is 2-2 all-time in matches played in College Station.
- Oct. 3, 2014: Texas A&M, then ranked 21st in the AVCA poll, earned a 3-0 victory in Knoxville back on the second weekend of SEC play. Kelsey Bawcome had 10 kills to lead Tennessee while Lexi Dempsey finished with 12 assists.
- Nov. 15, 2013: Texas A&M earned its third straight-set victory of the all-time series with a 3-0 win over the Lady Vols last year in College Station.
- Nov. 21, 2012: In a dramatic five-set match, UT saw its seven-match winning streak snapped as the Aggies claimed a 3-2 victory in Knoxville. A&M exacted some revenge in the victory as UT had swept the Aggies in College Station earlier that season. Both UT and A&M would represent the SEC at the NCAA Tournament that year.
TENNESSEE (8-20, 1-13 SEC)
- Tennessee seeks to end its short, three-match road swing with a win when it takes on Texas A&M following a 3-1 loss at LSU on Friday night. It was the third straight match for UT that has gone to four sets.
- For the second straight match, the Lady Vols struggled to find an offensive rhythm in Baton Rouge. UT committed a season-worst 33 attack errors on Friday night, finishing with a hitting efficiency of just .052 -- another season-low. UT swung .098 at Auburn last Sunday.
- Kanisha Jimenez, making her first start in UT's last four matches, finished with a team-high 11 kills. It was the second straight match she's finished with double digit kills and was her highest kill total since a Tennessee win over Montana State on Sept. 20 in which she also had 11.
- After entering the match at setter early in the first set, Taylor Johnson posted her second career double-double against LSU. Johnson had 29 assists and 10 digs to record the 15th double-double on the year for Tennessee as a whole. She is the fifth Lady Vol to have notched multiple double-doubles this season, joining Lexi Dempsey (5), Jimenez (4), Jamie Lea (2), and Kelsey Bawcombe (2).
- Jamie Lea had nine kills on Friday night, her highest kill output since putting down 17 at Mississippi State on Oct. 17.
- Sunday's trek to College Station marks the farthest Tennessee has strayed from home this season and is the first time and only time the Lady Vols will cross the Mississippi River.
- Two players on the Tennessee roster will be playing Sunday's match in their home state. Freshman Iesha Bryant is a native of Carthage, Texas, and sophomore Ashley Mariani hails from Arlington.
TEXAS A&M (16-8, 8-5 SEC)
- The Aggies wrap up a three-match home stand against Tennessee on Sunday. A&M is 8-5 at Reed Arena this season, but 3-2 over its last five home matches.
- A&M is coming off a 3-1 win over Ole Miss last Sunday that saw four Aggies reach double digit kills. Junior outside hitter Angela Lowak led the team with 16 kills and 15 digs for her fourth double-double on the year.
- Sophomore middle blocker Jazzmin Babers currently leads the SEC with a .443 hitting percentage in conference matches. She also ranks fifth in the league in blocks per set at 1.10.
- The Aggies have won three straight matches against UT, including a 3-0 victory in Knoxville earlier this season. Ranked 21st at the time, A&M used a .333 team hitting percentage and 13 kills from Lowak to complete the sweep. Kelsey Bawcombe led Tennessee with 10 kills on the night.
- Texas A&M spent seven weeks of this season in the AVCA Top 25 before dropping out last week following a 3-2 loss at Alabama. The Aggies were ranked as high as 19th on Oct. 6.
- Sunday is Military Appreciation Day at Reed Arena. Active and retired military personnel will be admitted to the match without charge, as will the families of any military member currently deployed.
