HALFTIME NOTES
TENNESSEE TIDBITS
- At the half, Alabama leads Tennessee, 27-10.
- UT has now gone 255 consecutive games with a point scored, dating back to Sept. 17, 1994. It marks the fourth-longest active streak in FBS, as well as the 10th-longest in history.
- The Vols lost the coin toss to the Crimson Tide. On the season, Tennessee has now lost seven of their eight coin tosses.
TENNESSEE CAPTAINS
- #14 Justin Worley, #45 A.J. Johnson and #56 Curt Maggitt represented the Vols for the pregame coin toss.
VFL LEGEND OF THE GAME
- VFL Dale Jones (1983-86) was honored in a pregame ceremony before the Alabama-Tennessee game as the Vols' Legend of the Game.
- Jones is best known as the defensive leader of UT's 1985 SEC Championship squad which went on to stun No. 2 Miami (Fla.) in the Sugar Bowl, 35-7.
- During his time, UT teams went 3-1 against the Crimson Tide.
- Jones earned Freshman All-American honors in 1983 and was a two-time All-SEC linebacker for the Vols.
- Jones is in his 19th season on the coaching staff for Appalachian State. He was named inside linebackers coach for the Mountaineers in 2014.
NEW OFFENSIVE STARTS
- #12 Nathan Peterman made his second career start (first of the season) at quarterback against Alabama. Peterman's last start came on Sept. 21, 2013 at #19 Florida.
- #77 Kyler Kerbyson made his first career start at left guard against Alabama.
- #65 Jacob Gilliam made his first start at right tackle, marking his first start since Aug. 31 against Utah State.
DOBBS & PETERMAN UNDER CENTER
- #11 Joshua Dobbs saw action at the quarterback position for the first time this season. Tonight marks his first game action since Nov. 30, 2013 against Kentucky. He was eight of 14 for 89 yards passing with one touchdown in the first half.
- In the first half, Dobbs rushed for 56 yards on 10 carries, the most by a Vols quarterback since Tee Martin had 81 yards rushing against Syracuse on Sept. 3, 1998.
- #12 Nathan Peterman had two completions on four attempts for 10 yards in the first half. .
ORANGE-ON-ORANGE
- The Vols donned orange pants for the first time this season, sporting a full orange uniform for the first time since a Oct. 19, 2013, when the Vols upset #11/9 South Carolina in a 23-21 victory.
- The full orange combination was popular under Head Coach Johnny Majors in the 1980s. The Vols are 2-2 in their last four times wearing orange-on-orange:
- Sept. 25, 1999 vs. Memphis (W, 17-16)
- Dec. 1, 2007 vs. LSU in SEC Championship Game (L, 21-14)
- Oct. 3, 2009 vs. Auburn (L, 26-22)
- Oct. 19, 2013 vs. South Carolina (W, 23-21)
- Tennessee last wore full orange uniforms against Alabama in 1988.
- UT last wore orange pants on Nov. 30, 2013 in a 27-14 victory over Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
OFFENSE
- With 140 yards rushing on 26 attempts in the first half, UT has accumulated more rushing yard than any Alabama opponent this year. The Crimson Tide previously allowed 107 yards on 27 carries by Florida on Sept. 20, 2014.
- #45 A.J. Johnson took his first snap in the wildcat formation since Nov. 24, 2012 against Kentucky.
- #1 Jalen Hurd took his first career snap in the wildcat formation in the first quarter and ran for a three yard gain.
- Dobbs connected with tight end #48 Alex Ellis for a 25-yard reception in the first quarter. The 25-yard catch marked the second of Ellis's career, as well as a career-long reception for Ellis. The play was also the longest reception by a Vols' tight end this year.
- Dobbs completed a 28-yard pass to #2 Pig Howard in the second quarter, putting UT on the Alabama 49-yard line.
- #15 Marlin Lane recorded his longest rush of the season with a 44-yard run in the second quarter.
- #8 Marquez North caught a 20-yard pass from Dobbs with less than two minutes left in the first half, putting UT on Alabama's 19-yard line. .
HOW THEY SCORED
- #11 Joshua Dobbs threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver #3 Josh Malone. The catch was the first touchdown reception of Malone's career.
- #25 Aaron Medley made his one PAT for the Vols in the second quarter. On the year, Medley is 20-for-20 on PATS.
- Medley made his 27-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter. He is now 11-of-14 on field goal attempts this year and has at least one field goal in all eight career games for UT.
DEFENSIVELY SPEAKING
- #24 Michael Williams started in place of #56 Curt Maggitt on the Vols defense against Alabama.
- Alabama was five-for-seven on third down conversions in the first half. Entering the matchup with the Crimson Tide, Tennessee owned a 28.0 defensive third down conversion percentage, eighth-best in the country and tops in the SEC.
SPECIAL TEAMS
- #43 Matt Darr punted four times in the first half, two inside the 10-yard line. Darr now has six punts inside the 10-yard line this season, 13 for his career.
ODDS AND ENDS
- Alabama's quarterback #6 Blake Sims connected with wide receiver #9 Amari Cooper for an 80-yard touchdown on the Tide's opening possession of the game. The last time an opponent had an 80-yard completion was on Sept. 17, 2011, when Florida's John Brantley hit Chris Rainey with an 83-yard touchdown pass.
- The last time a Vol opponent had 150 yards receiving was Alabama's #9 Amari Cooper with 162 yards on Oct. 20, 2012.
