THE SERIES
- Sunday marks the 56th meeting all-time between Tennessee and LSU in a series that dates back to 1977. The Tigers hold a 34-21 edge in the series and snapped a four-match losing streak to the Lady Vols with a 3-2 victory in Knoxville last sesaon. UT holds a slight 13-12 lead in the series in matches played in Knoxville.
- Nov. 17, 2013: LSU stole the final two sets of the match as it bounced back from an early deficit to top Tennessee, 3-2. Jamie Lea tallied a team-high 16 kills while Lexi Dempsey picked up her 16th double-double of the season with 43 assists and 15 digs.
- Nov. 18, 2012: The Lady Vols sent Jasmine Brown, Leslie Cikra, DeeDee Harrison, and Kayla Jeter out on a high note behind a 3-0 sweep of LSU on Senior Night. Cikra had a match-high 17 kills as Tennessee completed the season sweep of the Tigers.
- Oct. 10, 2012: UT earned just its sixth victory in Baton Rouge in 23 tries when it topped LSU, 3-2, in a nationally televised match on ESPNU.
TENNESSEE (7-12, 0-5 SEC)
- The Lady Vols suffered their fifth straight loss on Friday night, falling 3-0 at the hands of No. 13 Kentucky.
- Jamie Lea had a team-high eight kills in the match, followed closely by Shealyn Kolosky's seven. Kolosky swung .357 on the night.
- Tennessee outdug its UK counterpart 39-35 on Friday night. As a team, UT ranks fifth in the SEC in digs at 14.14 per set.
- Setter Lexi Dempsey finished the match with 14 assists, giving her 1,509 for her career. The junior is now just 22 helpers shy of taking sole possession of eighth place on the all-time assists list at UT.
- Lea (146), Kendra Turner (113), and Kanisha Jimenez (112) all have over 100 kills on the season for the Lady Vols. Jimenez and Lea also have reached triple digits in digs with 162 and 100, respectively.
- Sunday's match vs. LSU ends a four-match homestand for Tennessee -- the longest of the season. UT will play three of its next four on the road over to close the month of October.
LSU (7-7, 2-3 SEC)
- The Tigers of LSU come into the weekend seeking their second SEC win of the week and their third straight overall. Prior to defeating Mississippi State 3-0 on Wednesday night in Baton Rouge, LSU defeated Arkansas by a 3-2 score line.
- Against MSU, the Tigers did not allow the Bulldogs more than 15 points in a set and limited them to a .000 attack percentage. LSU posted an attack percentage of .368 -- its highest of the season.
- Briana Holman, a sophomore middle blocker, ranks third in the SEC in kills per set at 3.70. On the defensive side, Holman is posting 1.70 blocks per set -- a figure that leads the SEC and ranks third nationally.
- Sunday's match kicks off a four-game road swing for LSU. The Tigers are 1-3 in true road matches in 2014 with the lone win coming at UTSA.
- LSU was ranked 48th in the latest RPI and also boasts the fifth strongest schedule in the NCAA.
