- The University of Tennessee track & field team will open its indoor campaign at the UAB Blazer Invitational, as the Vols and Lady Vols compete on Friday and Saturday in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

- Participating teams include Alabama A&M, Alabama-Birmingham, Alabama State, Birmingham-Southern, Bryan, Central Arkansas, Emory, Florida A&M, FIU, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Jackson State, Kennesaw State, Lee, Ole Miss, Mississippi College, Shorter, South Alabama and Tulane.
- Tennessee has three decorated newcomers looking to begin their careers with early success.
Jerimy Strainge is the lone freshman for the Vols this season, coming to UT from Delray Beach, Fla. Strainge has numerous accomplishments highlighted by three Junior Olympic and a Florida state championship.
On the women's side, Felecia Majors of Lorton, Va., is a versatile athlete accomplished in pole vault and sprints. Majors is joined by Brielyn Rogers from Upper Malboro, Md., as new additions for the Lady Vols. Rogers' achievements include being a three-time high school All-American, as well as a state and USATF champion during her high school career.
