Reggie White
Defensive Tackle (1980-83)

White, who died Dec. 26, 2004, at the age of 43, collected a school-record 32 sacks in his four years with the Vols to establish himself as the most prolific pass rusher in Tennessee history. Fifteen of those sacks came in his senior year of 1983, a campaign former Vols head coach Phillip Fulmer called the "most individually dominant season I've ever seen." Known as the "Minister of Defense," White went on to a 17-year pro football career, retiring as the NFL's all-time sack leader with 198. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002. He graduated from Tennessee in 1990 and his number was retired by the Vols on Oct. 1, 2005.

"I was fortunate to have a famous key block in the 1951 Cotton Bowl where I blocked Bud McFadin when Hank Lauricella had his great and famous 75-yard run against Texas, who we upset 20-14. According to what I was told, I was the first to wear number 92. I lettered the number in 1949, 1950 & 1951. Reggie White made number 92 outstanding at the University of Tennessee and I am very proud that Reggie made our number famous."

Wide Receiver (1969-70)

"The only year I wore number 92 and lettered was 1970 before I changed to my desired 88 the next season. Being selected to the AP All-SEC Team as a sophomore that year was an honor. When 92 was retired my kids use to enjoy telling everybody their dad's number was retired in Neyland Stadium (until they learned how to read and realized it was Reggie White)."
