URBANA, Ill. - Battling until the end, the No. 4 seeded University of Tennessee women's doubles team of Brynn Boren and Kata Szekely fell 7-5, 7-5 in the NCAA Doubles Semifinals to No. 2 seeded Southern California Sunday.
"Brynn and Kata had a great tournament run," said co-head coach Mike Patrick. "We put ourselves in a position to win each set a had a couple of opportunities to win each set but just weren't able to capitalize. USC played well, but we also played just as hard."
The duo finished the season as All-Americans marking back-to-back seasons of multiple Lady Vol All-Americans. Last season Szekely and then-partner Natalie Pluskota each earned All-American honors after finishing their season in the doubles semis.
Boren becomes the 16th Lady Vol All-American and 12th under the watch of Mike Patrick while Szekely becomes the eighth Lady Vol to earn multiple All-America honors while on Rocky Top.
"I am proud of their effort this weekend and they had a good season," said Patrick. "For Kata to make two semifinals in a row is not an easy thing to do and it was a good way to conclude the season."
