AUBURN, Ala. - Tying for the third-lowest round score in school history, junior Chessey Thomas fired a 6-under 66 in the second round of the NCAA East Regional Friday at the Auburn Golf Club in Auburn, Ala.
The Spokane, Wash., native carded six birdies on the day, as she moved up 55 spots in the individual leaderboard with a two-day 143 (-1) card.
"Today, I just played really steady," Thomas said. "I did not try to force anything, especially on the greens. As far as tomorrow, I think we are all ready and know what we each need to do to put down our best."
Senior Erica Popson is tied for ninth after shooting 3-over 75 Friday with a 36-hole total of 142 (-2). Sophomore AJ Newell is tied for 56th heading into the final round at 150 (+5), while senior Sara Monberg follows in a tie for 63rd at 7-over 151. "Today was a pretty good day overall and we have given ourselves a good chance for tomorrow," head coach Judi Pavon said. "Chessey played an amazing round today and kept us in the tournament. Sara was tough and hung in there after making a couple mistakes."
"We have a tough day ahead of us, so we need to be confident and execute."
