Popson Leads UT at Bryan National Collegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Senior Erica Popson carded an even-par 72 in the second round to lead the Lady Vols at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C.
Popson is currently in a tie for 12th, moving up 12 spots from the first day for a two-round total of 2-over par 146.
Tennessee sits in 15th heading into Sunday's final round with a 610 (+34) card.
"It was a disappointing day out there in really nice conditions," head coach Judi Pavon said. "We are in a bit of a funk right now, and making some uncharacteristic mistakes that are leading to high scores."
Sophomore Daeun Song follows Popson in a tie for 47th after shooting 5-over 77 Saturday. Sophomore AJ Newell is in a tie for 71st with a two-day card of 156 (+12) and senior Sara Monberg rounds out UT's counted scores, shooting a 77 (+5) in the second round. Junior Chessey Thomas finished the day with a 79 (+7) and sits in a tie for 75th.
"We are expecting a rainy day tomorrow so we are trying to re-group and post a good number so we can make up some ground tomorrow and post a decent finish," Pavon said.
No. 15 Virginia continues to hold the team lead with a 574 (-2) card. No. 6 Arkansas follows in second at 583 (+7) and No. 7 Vanderbilt is in third at 586 (+10). No. 19 Georgia (595) and Auburn (595) are tied for fourth, while Wake Forest (596) and No. 5 Florida (596) follow in a tie for sixth. No. 23 NC State (597), No. 9 North Carolina (597) and South Carolina (597) round out the top 10, as the trio is tied for eighth. Michigan State (600) is in 11th, No. 2 Duke (604) sits in 12th, and Florida State (609) and Louisville (609) are tied for 13th. Following UT in 16th is UNC-Wilmington (621) and in 17th is UNC-Greensboro (622).
Sunday's final round will be a 8:30 a.m. ET shotgun start.
