Popson Paces Lady Vols at LSU Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. - After the opening round of the LSU Classic, senior Erica Popson is tied for first at 1-under par 71.
The Lady Vol golf got off to solid start at the LSU Classic posting a front nine card of 6-over, but wrapped up the back nine at 17-over. UT finished the first day in seventh place with a 305 (+17) card.
Sophomore AJ Newell carded 1-over par 73 to be tied for eighth, and senior Sara Monberg sits in a tie for 34th at 6-over par 78. Junior Chessey Thomas rounds out Tennessee's scored with 11-over 83. Sophomore Mason Chen is tied for 62nd at 12-over 84.
Sophomore Daeun Song, who is competing as an individual, shot a 7-over par 79 to be tied for 46th.
No. 8 Arkansas is atop the leaderboard at 293. No. 25 Tulane (298) and Florida State follow (293) in second and third, respectively, while Florida State (301) and TCU (301) are tied for third. NC State (302) sits in fifth, followed by Kentucky (304) in sixth. LSU (306), Missouri (309) and Georgia (315) round out the top 10 behind UT. Wake Forest (316), Mississippi (322), ULM (323) and UNC-Wilmington (335) complete the team standings in the 11th through 14th slots on the first day.
