HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Lady Vol golf team finished in a tie for eighth at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate after carding 20-over par 304 in Sunday's final round.
"Today was disappointing," head coach Judi Pavon said. "We had great weather and played about 12 holes pretty well, but just lost focus toward the end of the day, lost some shots and let a couple teams come in and beat or tie us."
Senior Erica Popson recorded her fourth top-10 finish this year as she shot 1-over par 72 for a three-day total of 4-over 217 to finish in seventh.
Sophomore AJ Newell and junior Chessey Thomas tied for 36th as the pair wrapped up the tournament at 15-over par 228. Sophomore Daeun Song completed UT's scores as she finished in a tie for 29th after a final round 7-over par card for a 229 (+16) total. Senior Sara Monberg finished 77th with a 250 (+37) card after shooting 9-over 80 on Sunday. Sophomore Mason Chen, who competed as an individual, finished in 71st at 28-over 241.
"Erica played well and had another top-10 finish," Pavon said. "We need some more short game work and need to be a little tougher on the course."
No. 4 Alabama claimed the top spot with a 876 (+24) card. No. 35 LSU and No. 11 Vanderbilt tied for second with 880 (+28), while No. 17 Arizona State came in fourth with a tournament total of 887 (+35). No. 3 North Carolina and No. 8 Arkansas tied for fifth with 889 (+37) and No. 19 Virginia placed seventh with 894 (+42). UCF tied with the Lady Vols in eighth with a 902 (+50) card and No. 14 Georgia rounded out the top 10 at 62-over 914. South Carolina (921), TCU (923), Furman (924), Wake Forest (926) and Auburn (938) completed the team standings.
Arizona State's Noemi Jimenez took home the individual title with a three-day card of 4-under par 209.
Tennessee will return to action March 22-24 at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.
