LAST GAME vs. VANDERBILT
- Tennessee staved off Vanderbilt's last-minute rally to earn a 58-57 victory Jan. 29 at Thompson-Boling Arena in front of a crowd of 16,391.
- Jarnell Stokes led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
- The final minute of the game came down to the wire between the in-state rivals. Skylar McBee hit the first of two free throws to give the Vols a 58-54 lead with 52 seconds left when Vanderbilt launched its final comeback attempt.
- James Siakam tipped in a shot to cut the Vols' lead to 58-57 with 28.2 seconds remaining. Vandy then regained possession off a missed UT free throw and ran down the clock to five seconds. Kedren Johnson then drove for a final layup down the left side but missed. Kevin Bright missed on a putback attempt that bounced off the rim just before time expired.
- Walk-on guard Brandon Lopez contributed down the stretch after Trae Golden left the game with a right hamstring injury. Lopez played 10 minutes and had three assists and two rebounds.
- Vanderbilt went scoreless for the first 6:47 of the game, as Tennessee built a 12-0 lead. During that stretch, Stokes scored seven points to lead the Vols. Vanderbilt, meanwhile, committed four turnovers and was 0-for-4 shooting.
- Tennessee led 27-23 at halftime. The Vols looked to be pulling away early in the second half, but Vanderbilt mustered a 9-0 run to tie the game at 52-52 on a 3-pointer by Sheldon Jeter at the 6:00 mark.
- Johnson led Vanderbilt with 14 points, and Josh Henderson added 13.
STOKES ON A ROLL
- Sophomore power forward Jarnell Stokes is the reigning SEC Player of the Week.
- The Memphis, Tenn., native is riding a streak of five straight double-doubles, and he has a double-double in six of UT's last seven games (nine total this year).
- Stokes is the reigning SEC Player of the Week.
- No SEC player has more than Stokes' nine double-doubles this season (Murphy Holloway of Ole Miss and Johnny O'Bryant III of LSU also have nine).
VANDY'S JOHNSON HAS BIG ORANGE BLOODLINES
- Vanderbilt sophomore guard Kedren Johnson's father, Curtis Johnson, played baseball at Tennessee.
- Curtis Johnson lettered as an outfielder for the Vols in 1982 and 1983.
- Curtis Johnson was UT teammates with eventual big-leaguers Alan Cockrell, Rich DeLucia and Rich Rodriguez.
