AT FIRST GLANCE - #7/10 AUBURN
- Saturday marks the 52nd all-time meeting between Tennessee and Auburn and the first since 2009. The Vols are 21-27-3 all-time vs. the Tigers, including a 14-9-2 mark at Neyland Stadium.
- Tennessee and Auburn are playing for the first time since 2009, when the Tigers won 26-22 in Knoxville.
- The Vols have lost five consecutive games to Auburn from 2003-09, following a streak in which UT was 5-0-1 vs. the Tigers from 1989-99.
- Tennessee and Auburn met every season from 1956-1991 prior to the league's expansion to 12 teams.
HOMECOMING 2013 PRESENTED BY LOWE'S
- Saturday is the 90th Homecoming game at the University of Tennessee. UT is 69-17-3 in Homecoming games, including four consecutive wins since 2009 and wins in nine of 10 since 2003.
- Auburn is the Homecoming opponent for Tennessee for the first time ever.
- Tennessee is also 27-2 on Homecoming since 1984, with the lone losses happening in 2002 vs. No. 1 Miami (Fla.) (26-3) and in 2008 vs. Wyoming (13-7).
A TENNESSEE WIN WOULD...
- Improve the Vols to 5-5 and snap a five-game losing streak vs. Auburn, dating to 2003 and be the Vols' first win over Auburn since Oct. 2, 1999, a 24-0 UT win.
- Represent two wins in four games over ranked teams after 19 consecutive losses to ranked teams from Dec. 31, 2009 through Oct. 5, 2013.
- Snap a 19-game losing streak vs. AP Top 10 opponents dating to the 51-33 win at No. 10 Georgia in 2006. Earlier this season, South Carolina was ranked No. 9 in the Coaches Poll when the Vols beat SC (23-21).
- Mark consecutive wins at home over ranked opponents for the first time since 2007 (35-14 over No. 12 Georgia on Oct. 6, 2007 and 27-24 overtime win over No. 15 South Carolina on Oct. 27, 2007).
ANOTHER RANKED OPPONENT
- No. 7 Auburn is the school-record seventh ranked team the Vols have played in the regular season in 2013.
- In 1991, UT played six ranked teams in the regular season (#21 UCLA, #23 Mississippi St., #13 Auburn, at #10 Florida, at #14 Alabama, at #5 Notre Dame). Tennessee also played #6 Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl that season.
- According to Stats, Inc., Tennessee is the first team since Pitt in 1993 to play seven ranked teams in eight games.
TOP 10 TALENT
- Including #1 Alabama and #10 Missouri, #7 Auburn is the third consecutive top 10 opponent for the Vols, the first time UT has played three consecutive top 10 foes since 1964 (#3 Alabama, at #7 LSU, #7 Georgia Tech).
- The game vs. Auburn allows Tennessee to tie the school record for the most top 10 opponents in a single season with five (at #2 Oregon, #6 Georgia, at #1 Alabama, at #10 Missouri).
- The Vols also played five top 10 foes in 2005 (at #6 Florida, at #4 LSU, #5 Georgia, at #5 Alabama, at #8 Notre Dame).
- This season is the first since 2005 that UT has played four ranked teams on the road, all consecutively (1995: #6 Florida, #4 LSU, #5 Alabama, #8 Notre Dame).
- According to the NCAA, the Vols have played the third-toughest schedule nationally in terms of cumulative opposition winning pct. to date at .727 (40-15) behind Purdue (.809) and Utah (.735).
HOME SWEET HOME TO ME
- Tennessee is 4-1 this season at Neyland Stadium and 1-1 in SEC action. The Vols are 10-4 in their last 14 games in Knoxville.
- The Vols' last home game was a win over then-No. 11/9 South Carolina on Oct. 19 that snapped a 19-game losing streak to ranked teams dating to 2009.
