Numbers of Interest

Here are a few numbers of interest:

» Tennessee remained unbeaten on the season, running its record to 6-0 with a 76-67 victory over Virginia on Thursday afternoon.

»Ariel Massengale dished out a career-high 13 assists vs. Virginia, charting the third-highest single-game assist total in school history.

» Meighan Simmons fired in a season-best 32 points, connecting on eight of 17 three-point attempts, as she nearly eclipsed her career high of 33.

» Tennessee shot a season-best 53 percent from the field vs. the Cavaliers.

POSTGAME NOTES

THE SERIES

This marked the 17th all-time meeting between Tennessee and Virginia, and the Lady Vols now lead the series 14-3.
The Lady Vols are now 6-1 vs. the Cavaliers at neutral sites.
UT now stands 3-0 this season and 113-22 all-time vs. teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

FOR STARTERS

For the sixth time this season, Tennessee started Ariel Massengale, Meighan Simmons, Cierra Burdick, Bashaara Graves and Isabelle Harrison.
The unit is 6-0 this season when starting.
They are 10-1 all-time when starting together, including a 4-1 record last season.

SEASON SUMMARY

The Lady Vols improved their record to 6-0, the first time they've been 6-0 since 2010-11.
UT saw its all-time record move to 1,224-273 in its 69th season of women's basketball.
The victory was Tennessee's 14th-consecutive over an unranked opponent.
The Big Orange shot a season-best 52.8 percent from the field.
The Lady Vols hit the most three-pointers of the season (11 in 26 attempts).

SIMMONS ON FIRE

Meighan Simmons led Tennessee in scoring with 32 points, the first time this season she has done so.
That total was the second-most in her career behind 33 vs. North Carolina on Dec. 2, 2012.
With that point total Simmons moved into 16th place on UT's all-time scoring list with 1,573 points, surpassing Cindy Noble (1,561) and Nikki McCray (1,572) today.
Simmons drained eight treys against the Cavaliers to tie the school record she set vs. Lamar on Dec. 1, 2010.
It marked the 21st time in her career that Simmons has hit for more than 20 points.
She hit double figures for the 83rd time in her career.

MASSENGALE DISHING

Point guard Ariel Massengale dished out a career-high 13 assists against UVa.
She now has 41 assists for the season and is averaging 6.8 per contest.
Massengale's total tied for the third highest in school history. Only Dawn Marsh (18) and Holly Warlick (14) recorded more in a game.
Massengale also scored 10 points for the Lady Vols, marking the fourth time in six games she has been in double figures.
Thanks to the passing skills of Massengale and her teammates, Tennessee has recorded assist totals of 23 and 21 the past two games.

FOUL MOOD

Tennessee was whistled for 14 fouls in the first half vs. Virginia, while the Cavaliers had six called on them.
Seven of nine Lady Vols who played in the first 20 minutes were issued two personal fouls, which included Ariel Massengale, Cierra Burdick, Bashaara Graves, Isabelle Harrison, Jasmine Jones, Andraya Carter and Mercedes Russell.
Holly Warlick picked up her first technical as head coach with 2.9 to go in the first half.
In the second half the tables turned with UVa earning 12 foul calls to finish with 18, while the Lady Vols had just six to wind up at 20 for the game.
No Lady Vols fouled out, but Kelsey Wolfe and Sydney Umeri fouled out for UVa.

UP NEXT

Tennessee will play on Friday, facing SMU (7-0), a 68-57 winner over Kansas State (2-3) in the second Lucaya Division game on Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Vols and Mustangs, who will meet for the first time, are slated to tip at 8 p.m. ET in the championship game of the Junkanoo Jam.
Virginia and Kansas State will face off at 5:45 p.m. ET in the third-place contest.
