#16 TENNESSEE (6-2) at MARYLAND (5-3, 1-0 ACC)
- The 16th-ranked University of Tennessee volleyball team posted its second consecutive 2-1 weekend last week to open the young 2012 campaign with a 4-2 mark after two regular season tournaments.
- The defending SEC Champion Lady Vols began last season's title run with the exact same 4-2 mark through six matches and then rattled off 11-straight victories through its final regular season tournament and first eight league matches.
- The Lady Vols shutout George Washington on Friday night and Boston College on Saturday to improve to 6-2 on the campaign. UT hit .639 as a team against the Eagles, breaking a 32-year single-match record.
- Tennessee leads the all-time series against the Terps by a 3-1 margin and won last season's meeting, 3-2.
- The Big Orange is 15-5 against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents in the rally scoring era.
SCOUTING THE TERPS
- Tournament host Maryland enters its second home tournament with a 4-2 overall record. The Terps posted wins over Villanova, New Hampshire, Robert Morris and Binghamton this season and took a talented Ohio State team to five sets. The Terps lost to Boston College in four and shutout George Washington to improve to 5-3.
- The ACC affiliates are led by sophomore outside hitter Ashleigh Crutcher, who has a team-high 82 kills on the season and is averaging 3.57 per set. Crutcher posted 18 kills against Seton Hall, 17 against Binghamton and a career-best effort of 19 kills against the Buckeyes.
- Head Coach Tim Horsmon returns for his fifth season after spending five seasons at Dayton. Horsmon made eight NCAA appearances in his first nine season as a head coach and earned the 2007 AVCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year award. He has a record of 54-83 at Maryland.
