GURABO, P.R. -- The USA recorded its second-straight blowout win at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women, rolling past Argentina, 68-28, in Group A preliminary round action on Thursday.
Forward/center Bashaara Graves, who is a freshman at Tennessee, contributed four rebounds to the American cause in 14 minutes of play. The graduate of Clarksville (Tenn.) High School helped Team USA record a 57-41 advantage on the boards and improve its record in the tournament to 2-0. The squad won 99-26 over Dominican Republic on Wednesday.
The USA built an 18-6 lead after the first stanza and held Argentina to only four points in the second frame to command a 35-10 advantage at the half. The Red, White and Blue extended the margin to 52-19 after three periods and cruised on to a 40-point win.
Though shooting only 37 percent from the field, the Americans did have their transition game going, outscoring Argentina, 39-6, in fast break points. Only 14 of those USA points came via turnovers.
USA will return to action on Friday, as it plays Colombia at 3:45 p.m. Eastern time. Once again, live video and stats will be available at www.fibaamericas.com.
