Mansolino to Speak at UT Luncheon

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A 13-year Major League coaching veteran and current minor league infield coordinator for the Philadelphia Phillies Doug Mansolino will the guest speaker at this week's Tennessee Baseball Luncheon, set to be held at noon on Thursday, May 3, in the MVP Club Room at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Tickets for the event are $10 per person with UT Bullpen Club members receiving a $5 discount. Those who attend will also receive a sneak peek of UT's game plan for its upcoming series against in-state rival Vanderbilt and hear from the Vol coaching staff and selected players as they give an update on the season. Prior to joining the Phillies organization in 2008, Mansolino spent three seasons as the third-base coach for the Houston Astros. He has also served on coaching staffs at the Major League level for the Chicago White Sox (1992-96), Milwaukee Brewers (1998-99) and Detroit Tigers (2000-02).
In 2006, Mansolino was named to the National League coaching staff for the All-Star Game held at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. He was part of the staff led by former Tennessee star and then Houston Astros manager Phil Garner. He later played a vital role in the development of a number of players that helped the Phillies win the 2008 World Series.
In addition, the Tellico Plains, Tenn., resident has worked in the minor leagues for the San Francisco Giants, New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations.
An avid collector of antique baseball gloves, Mansolino played collegiately at Oral Roberts University.
