Coach's Evaluation:
"One of the first things you have to mention about Trae is that he has really changed his body from last season. (Strength and conditioning coach Nicodemus Christopher) has done a great job with him in that regard - boosting Trae's endurance and explosiveness. On the floor, Trae is understanding things really well right now. He's aggressive offensively and can still score the ball, but he's a lot more well-rounded offensively. He always had that in him, but right now he's doing a better job than ever of setting up his teammates in spots where they can make plays and score the ball. If he just keeps playing defense like we need him to - and know he can - we'll be in really good shape when he's out there leading us on the floor."
Echoes of the Past:
Brandon Wharton (1996-99)
Brandon Wharton (1996-99)
"Both of these guys are high-scoring point guards. Both are multi-dimensional on the offensive end. Although Trae is a righty and Brandon was a lefty, they both have many similar characteristics. Both can go to the basket and finish, both can pull up for the tough two, and both can hit the three. Brandon was a better defender, but Trae can surely improve in this area. Both are excellent floor leaders and both are the go-to-players at crunch time. If Trae continues to improve other aspects of his game, he could end up as one of Tennessee's best scoring point guards and an All-SEC performer."
