Numbers of Interest

Here are a few numbers of interest:

» Oakland managed just 15 points in the first half. It is the fewest points UT has allowed in a half under head coach Cuonzo Martin.

» UT enjoyed over six minutes (6:10) of scoreless defense during a stetch in the first half, allowing the Vols to build a 15-2 lead.

» Trae Golden has scored in double figures in each of the last four games (UNCA, OSU, UMass, Oakland)

THE SERIES

• The Vols are now (1-2) against the Oakland all-time. The Golden Grizzlies defeated the Vols, 89-82, in 2010 in Knoxville. Oakland took an 89-81 win in Rochester, Mich., in 2011.
• Oakland is the only Summitt League team UT has ever faced.

FOR STARTERS

• The starters for the fifth game in a row: sophomore forward Jarnell Stokes, senior forward Kenny Hall, sophomore guard Josh Richardson, junior Trae Golden and senior guard Skylar McBee.
• Vols sitting out Monday's game included senior Jeronne Maymon (knee), senior Dwight Miller (knee), freshman Derek Reese (labral tear).
• Jarnell Stokes netted the first points of the game, on a pair of free throws just 29 into the action.
• Oakland's Lloyd Neely II scored the first field goal of the game on a put-back lay-up one minute in.
• Skyler McBee scored UT's first field goal when he drained a 3-pointer with 17:44 left in the first half.
• Junior guard Jordan McCrae was the first player subbed in for Tennessee, checking in with 15:12 left in the first half.

HALL-ING DOWN REBOUNDS

• Senior Kenny Hall grabbed 11 boards for his first double-figure rebounding performance of the season and the sixth of his career. Hall had three double-digit rebound showings in 2011-12.
• Tennessee outrebounded Oakland, 42-29.

STINGY DEFENSE

• Tennessee limited Oakland to just 28.6 percent shooting from the floor (16-of-56), the lowest shooting percentage by an opponent during Cuonzo Martin's tenure as UT head coach. It is the lowest opponent field-goal shooting night since Ole miss shot 26.7 percent on Jan. 29, 2011. The Golden Grizzlies also shot just 12.5 percent from 3-point range (2-of-16).
• Oakland's 50 points are the fewest allowed by UT this season and second-fewest during the Martin era. Last season UT held Auburn to just 49 points.
• Tennessee held Oakland to just 15 points in the first half on 5-of-32 shooting from the field, 1-of-11 shooting from 3-point range, and 4-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line. It is the fewest points UT has allowed this season.
• The 15 points allowed in the first half was also UT's fewest in a half under head coach Cuonzo Martin. The previous best was 16 against Auburn on Jan. 28, 2012. UT led the Tigers 30-16 at the half en route to a 64-49 victory.
• Tennessee took command early in the game thanks to some strong defense. UT shut out Oakland for a stretch of 6:10 in the first half to build a 15-2 advantage. That is the longest scoreless stretch by a UT opponent this season.
• In Puerto Rico Tip-Off semifinals, UT held Oklahoma State scoreless for a span of 3:39 in the first half. In the season opener, the Vols held Kennesaw State scoreless for the first 5:02 of the second half.

CHARGE IT

• Junior D'Montre Edwards drew the first charge of his career with 1:35 left in the first half, holding his ground as Drew Valentine drove into the lane.
• It was the ninth charge drawn by the team this season.

DOUBLE-FIGURE FELLAS

• Junior Trae Golden (18 points) and sophomore Jarnell Stokes (19 points) were very efficient from the floor, combining to shoot 14-of-17 (Golden 7-of-9, Stokes 7-of-8).
• Golden reached double figures with 4:57 left in the first half when he made a pair of free throws. He scored 14 points in the first half. Golden has now scored in double figures four times this season and 31 times in his career.
• Stokes recorded his fourth game in double-figure scoring of the season when he hit a jumper at the 16:22 mark of the second half. It also marked the 12th double-figure scoring effort of his career.

• Rob Murphy made his season debut when he and Brandon Lopez checked into the game with 1:28 remaining. Lopez previously played one minute against Oklahoma State.

• The Vols will compete in the SEC/BIG EAST Challenge on Friday, Nov. 30, taking on No. 20/25 Georgetown at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
• The last time the Vols and Hoyas played was Nov. 28, 2008. in a 90-78 UT victory in Orlando, Fla. Georgetown won the first-ever meeting, 70-60, on March 18, 2003, in Knoxville.
