Each month, UTsports.com sits down with a former Vol to catch up on their life after Rocky Top. This month's featured former standout is Ryan Childress (2005-09).
Q: For starters, can you just give us an update on what you're doing now?
A: I'm working for Zimmer, doing orthopedic implant sales. I actually just joined on with them in the last few months, so I'm just getting started with them as a sales rep here in Knoxville.
Q: I know you're from the Cincinnati area, what made you decide to stay here in Knoxville?
A: I love the people here. I fell in love with the town when I was in school here. Playing basketball I was able to meet a lot of really great people. I met my wife here--she was a nursing student.
Q: Tell us about your family?
A: My wife, Lauren, and I have a little girl, Mary Rylan. She is 19 months old.
Q: Have you had an opportunity to meet any of our new coaches?
A: I had an opportunity to meet Coach Martin right before his press conference. I think it is a great move for us--a great hire. I think we're moving in the right direction with the discipline their going to instill. I think Coach Martin is going to build a program that can win for a long time. I think that's big. He seems to be all business, but he has really had open arms to all of us older guys and really welcomed us.
Q: Do you keep up with any of the guys you played with?
A: I see Wayne Chism from time to time. I see Steven Pearl a lot in the hospitals--he's doing similar work to mine. I'm still close with Jordan Howell and Tanner Wild. Jordan and I actually coach an AAU team together.
