Whitis Resigns from Volleyball Coaching Position

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee announced today that assistant volleyball coach Gregg Whitis has resigned to pursue other opportunities.
Whitis coached at Tennessee for three seasons from 2008-10 and served as the team's recruiting coordinator. He was involved in all phases of the program, including on-court coaching and scouting. He joined the Lady Vol program after spending two seasons at Michigan (2006-07).
Other stops in Whitis' coaching career include stints as an assistant coach at Clemson (2003-05), SMU (2001-02), Northern Michigan (2000), South Carolina (1999), and South Dakota State (1998). He also was a graduate assistant at Indiana State (1995-96) and spent one season as the head coach at Kankakee Community College (Ill.) in 1997.
"I would like to thank Gregg for his service to our volleyball program," said head volleyball coach Rob Patrick. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
Whitis earned a bachelor of arts in English education from Olivet Nazarene University in 1991, where he played three seasons of club volleyball and two seasons of varsity golf.
