KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee volleyball team added another highly-touted prep player to its recruiting class for the 2011 campaign as it announced the signing of Mary Pollmiller on Thursday. A 5-11 setter from Littleton, Colo., Pollmiller is ranked 93rd on the PrepVolleyball.com "Senior Aces" list.
"We are extremely excited to add a player like Mary to our program," UT Head Coach Rob Patrick said. "She is very athletic and can both hit and set at a high level. Maybe her most impressive quality is her work ethic, which is just off the charts. She is exactly the type of setter we were looking for in this class. She is a gym rat that has put in a lot of time working on her setting. Another attribute that we really liked when evaluating her was her high-energy motor. Her effort level is set at 100 percent all the time. She is also a very vocal leader that will have an opportunity to get on the court early in her career because of her athleticism and advanced setting abilities."
Pollmiller joins an already talent-laden class that includes MaxPreps National High School Player of the Year Tiffany Baker, middle blocker Shealyn Kolosky and defensive specialist Nikki Brice, who joined the Lady Vol program earlier this semester. Baker and Kolosky were also named to the "Senior Aces" list, coming in fourth and 83rd, respectively.
A two-year captain at Chatfield High School, Pollmiller guided her squad to district and league championships in 2009. She was also named to the Jefferson County All-Conference First Team as both a junior and senior after earning second-team honors her sophomore season, in addition to being tabbed a 2010 5A honorable mention all-state selection by the Denver Post.
As a senior, Pollmiller tallied 168 kills, a .336 hitting percentage, 33 blocks, 143 digs and 29 service aces for the Chargers. She is also a member of the Juggernaut Volleyball Club which she helped lead to a Rocky Mountain Region championship in 2010.
