BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Tennessee Lady Volunteer senior guard Angie Bjorklund was selected for the 2010-11 SEC Community Service Team for women's basketball on Thursday.
In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted 12 players - one from each school - for its community service team.
This marks the 13th year for the SEC Community Service Team for women's basketball as well as for men's basketball. All 20 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
Bjorklund, a native Spokane Valley, Wash., has been very active in community service efforts for the Lady Vols during her four-year career. Most notably, she took an eight-day mission trip to Honduras in May 2010 and participated in the "Hoops for Hope" basketball tournament for Down Syndrome awareness.
Additionally, Bjorklund assisted with various donor "Thank-a-Thon" efforts, helped build houses for Knoxville's Women Built Habitat for Humanity, volunteered with children's clubs at Tennessee Athletics' "April Play Day," assisted with the UT Athletics' "Teams for Toys" Christmas toy drive for underprivileged children in the Knoxville community and made various visits to chapel events and hospitals.
On the court, Bjorklund became the Lady Vol career leader in three-pointers made (288) and attempted (712) this season. She is averaging 10.7 ppg and shooting 41.2 percent from three in 2010-11 for the fourth-ranked Big Orange, who captured the No. 1 seed in this weekend's SEC Tournament and will play eighth-seeded Florida in the quarterfinals on Friday at 1 p.m. ET at Bridgestone Arena.
